How Does The Aurora Work

The Eruption of Chile's Calbuco Volcano

December 16, 2015

In case you missed it in the 2 seconds the media gave this story back in April of 2015, Chile's Calbuco volcano erupted, spewing a giant plume of ash high into the sky over a sparsely populated, mountainous area. The most shocking part is these images and video come from the one of 3 eruptions in 8 days. The National Geology and Mines Service issued a red alert after Thursday's eruption, warning that the volcano remained unstable.

With this eruption an extraordinary lightning storm.

Once In A Lifetime Glimpse Of The Aurora and Volcano in Iceland

The Photography of James Appleton is for sure on my list of top 10 favorites. He travels the world capturing the most stunning photos of natures beauty. Seeing the world through his eyes makes you forget for a second about all that is wrong in the world. It takes you for a moment in time to some of the most divine places on earth.

This Photograph below is by far one of my favorite. I am using this photo for educational purposes which constitutes fair use but it will be removed if requested by the owner.

Try pronouncing the name of this volcano, let me know what you come up with!

The Aurora Borealis Was Visible in New York City

Embedded image permalinkJune 22, 2015  What was essentially a perfect storm of solar-energy events, the Aurora Borealis was visible throughout much of the Northeast, with faint traces of the phenomenon in New York City and as far south as Texas. The cause was a severe geomagnetic storm, which hit 8 on a 9-point scale, and was the result of a multi-part solar explosion, as Slate meteorologist Eric Holthaus excitedly explained.

Night of the Northern Lights

Stunning video of the Northern Lights! On 25th February 2014 Sun produced X4.9 flare which on 27th February caused G2 (KP 6) geomagnetic storm on Earth. It was the brightest aurora display during this solar maximum with auroral displays overhead in the far north of Scotland. This short movie illustrates what had been seen from latitude 58.3 degrees north.
